This is a 1v1 strategy that can do well vs pretty much any civ, and is one of the best Crossbow/Pike rushes since Germany gets the free Uhlans, which certainly help with raiding or fighting. It does work in team games to.
Deck:
2 Settler Wagons (Age 1)
2 Settler Wagons (Age 2)
3 Settler Wagons (Age 2)
Economic Theory (Age 1)
8 Crossbows + 2 Uhlans (Age 2)
5 Uhlans (Age 2)
700 Wood (Age 2)
Germantown Farmers (Age 3)
Recommended:
700 Coin (Age 2)
8 Skirmishers + 3 Uhlans (Age 3)
7 Skirmishers + 3 Uhlans (Age 3)
8 Uhlan (Age 3)
8 Uhlan (Age 3)
9 Black Riders (Age 3)
13 Jaegers (Age 3)
Advanced Arsenal (Age 2)
Factories (Age 4)
Discovery
Starting Crates:
2 Wood Crates: Build a market + house, gather 50 wood/coin, research hunting dogs
1 Wood Crate, 1 Coin Crate: Build a market, gather 50 wood/75 coin, buy 100 wood for a house, research hunting dogs
1 Wood Crate: Build a house
- Herd hunts to your TC
- Ship 2 Settler Wagons
- Age with 17 villager population and the 400 wood politician
Transition
- Research Gang Saw
- Switch Settler Wagons to wood, if you didn't have a market start, switch 2 normal vills as well
- Switch a few Settler Wagons to coin until you have gathered 125 coin, then switch to wood
- Send 2 villagers or a Settler Wagon to forward base if you intend to forward base
- Queue up two villagers
For a dual rax start:
Colonial
- All villagers on food, all Settler Wagons on wood
- Gather 400 wood crates
- Ship 700 wood
- Research Steel Traps
- TC waypoint to food
- Build 2 Barracks
- Build houses
- Train crossbows or pikes as needed
Make sure you are keeping constant pressure on the other player, raid with your Uhlans, pick off troops or settlers with your crossbows, siege houses with your pikes. Most importantly, do not commit to a fight you cannot win. If they have cavalry and you don't have enough pikemen to kill them, fall back and make some more pikes. Only fight a losing battle if there is no way to escape.
- Ship 3 Settler Wagons 3rd and send them to wood
(8 Crossbows or 5 Uhlans is also an option if you intend to push or are being pressured)
From here on, adjust your economy as needed, ship shipments as needed, build a stable and switch to Uhlans if you have to, just keep up the pressure. If they're in age 3, and have an army, stay back, raid, and age yourself. Those massive age 3 shipments Germany has will help repel any attacks.
For a single rax start:
Colonial
- Gather 400 wood crates
- Research Steel Traps
- TC waypoint to food
- Build a barracks
- Build houses
- Ship 5 Uhlans or 8 Crossbows + 2 Uhlans
8 Crossbows is typically the better shipment, since you get Uhlans with it anyways. However 5 Uhlans can be equally good if you're expecting a lot of light infantry or intend to go heavy on the raids. However, note that you also have the option to ship 3 Settler Wagons and then 2 Settler Wagons if you want a heavy economic start to the game. You can always substitute the 2 Settler Wagons with a military shipment if need be.
- Build Crossbows or Pikes as necessary
- Ship shipments as needed
- Put up a second barracks as soon as you have the economy to do so, which you should once you ship 700 wood or one/both of your Settler Wagon cards.
Otherwise, it's the same as before, pressure equally hard, do not commit to a fight you cannot win.
For both, if you win a battle, but have almost no units left, fall back, raid if you can, and come back with a bigger mass, otherwise they will just die.
