Lets wrap this discussion up on what maps belong in the competitive map set. Editing the Resource file is a pain and I can't make the changes to it as quickly as I'd like.
Current Competitive Maps on 1.2a
Andes Great Plains Himalayas Mongolia Painted Desert Pampas Patagonia Saguenay Siberia Silk Road Sonora Yukon
My votes are the ones currently in the beta Competitive Map set, which are.
Andes California - This reworked map was made to be in Competitive Maps. Great Plains Himalayas Mongolia New England - was in Competitive Maps on 1.1a. Painted Desert Pampas Patagonia Rockies - personal choice. Saguenay Siberia Sonora Yucatan - was in Competitive Maps on 1.1a. Yukon

The problem with silk road is that the tradeposts on silk road are very bad by trade posts standards (low amount of xp/resources per unit time) and they need to be to keep the map fair, so even making 50% of it buildable, it still would have problems. If there is any way around that though that'd be great, since it is a good map aside from that.
As for Rockies. The cliffs need to have more openings in the very least.
I was thinking we maybe should have a semi-competitive map list (though don't call it that since it sound stupid) that does not include maps with extra crates like hispaƱola, but that does include maps like rockies, northwest territories, prairie rivers, himalayas (upper), silk road, ceylon, ozarks, orinoko, great lakes, indochina, bayou, texas and araucania. These maps would not include the maps on competitive maps, so if people want a mixup they could guarantee having a mix up.

If we redo silk road it needs to be an entirely new map as to not delete or replace the original. We'd move the original silk road to some other sets (its already there in beta), and place this "New Silk Road" into the competitive map set. We'd also need a new map description as well as a new name. "Silk Road -- Lanzshou" is my vote.

Change Captureable Trade Post ID to Socket ID. Remove guardian code. Fix positions of the TR. We discussed this earlier though.

Sure upload it and lets take a look. How does it effect teams?

Sounds like it essentially does the same thing with a lot more work. Outpost was kept because it is just part of the map concept, and makes the map a bit more defensive.

I say we knock out Painted Desert from Comp Maps. Basically maps without TP's or Water make playing Ottos an extremely tough challenge to balance properly. They do have some boomier more defensive builds but they are a bit hard to pull off on some maps this being one of them.
I am all up for a new Silk Road with a normal trade route socket being added to Competitive maps.
My new votes:
Andes California Great Plains Himalayas Mongolia New England Pampas Patagonia Saguenay Siberia Silk Road - Lanzshou Sonora Yucatan Yukon

So we may need to use the map set from Yellow River for the New Silk Road. When you build a trade post and upgrade the route the resource counts are still halfed... and then it displays food wood and gold revenue twice.

What do people think of including Ozarks in competitive maps? It seems fairly balanced, imo. Thoughts?

Alright...
My current vote is for the following:
Andes California (with treasure rebalance) Great Plains Himalayas Mongolia Pampas Rockies (with treasure rebalance) Siberia Silk Road - Lanzshou Sonora Yucatan Yukon (with treasure rebalance)
I feel like new england, sag, and patagonia all have the problem where it is a little too difficult to attack the opponent. Patagonia too often ends up being a stupid boom map that favors civs like India and Japan.

I feel all those maps are fine in the beta. Slightly boomier maps don't make the map any less competitive in my opinion.

Think we need to make a list of exactly what we are looking for in a comp map instead of just making lists. Like what qualifies a map as competitive compared to a non competitive map. How hunts place, trees place, and mines place. I'll start one tomorrow and attach it to the first post and we can amend it when necessary until we agree what conditions are needed for a given map to be considered.

I think these maps would be fine for competitive maps:
Andes California Great Plains Himalayas Mongolia New England Pampas Patagonia Rockies Saguenay Siberia Silk Road - Lanzshou Sonora Yucatan Yukon
Nick, you claim Patagonia, New England, and Saguenay are too boomy. But all 3 require you to expand to somewhere where your vills aren't exactly safe. On New England and Pata, this tends to be to the left of your base, and on Saguenay it's the bottom half of the map.
In my opinion, Saguenay is actually one of the easiest maps to rush on. TCs aren't very far apart, and it's quite easy to forward base safely. I've played many games on Sag where the games go late into the Colonial.
I feel like Patagonia can be boomy, but you have to be careful if you choose to take this route. It can be easy to exploit when someone decides too use both trade posts and docks too early, or expands to other hunts before their army is up to par.
New England seems as though it should be a rather boomy map, but for some reason I feel almost the same way I feel about Saguenay with it. The pond makes rushing a little bit more difficult, since it's easy to wall off that part of your base; however, I feel like it's still pretty doable.
